-like conditions in the nation's heartland could make travel difficult. wendy gillette joins us live from new york city. >> reporter: good morning. the national weather service has received reports of 34 tornadoes in four states, now this powerful system is moving east. this is just one of more than 30 reported tornadoes that touched down on christmas day. leaving heavy damage. this one roared through alabama -- mobile, alabama tearing down parts of the church and downtown businesses. another twister hit mississippi, blowing insulation into trees and%khç peeling back walls of homes. there were some injuries reported, no deaths. >> judging from some of the damage we witnessed today it is a miracle that no one was hurt any worse than they were. >> reporter: further east in the state in stone county, theresa and her boyfriend took shelter in their truck. >> started jerking us and spinning us. >> reporter: the same fast-moving storms brought braise -conditions to parts of the country's mid section, causing 21 vehicle pile-up in oklahoma city, the system is heading east bringing treacherous conditions

are looking for a man who mugged a woman and then killed her beloved dog. as abc7 news reporter tells us, a witness is now offering a reward to catch the attacker. >>> the victim was driving through the tenderloin friday just before 5:00 p.m. she agreed to tell us what happened if we didn't reveal her identity because she's worried for her safety. she tell us she pulled over because she confined her phone and needed to look on the passenger's side. >> so i got out of my car and walked around. >> in the front seat was her dog, a 12-year-old dog. and he started barking because a man grabbed her. >> by the car and he took out my money. >> he turned his attention to the dog because he seemed angry that the victim only had $5.00 in her pocket. >> he looked at me with a blank look on his face, and he said i'm going to kill your [bleep] dog. >> after a struggle he snatched the dog out of the car. >> he put roxy over his head and threw her towards incoming traffic. >> roxy survived being thumped on the pavement, but she was later put down because she suffered major injuries. >> police are starti
collection boxes on campus. good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the whether with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, carolyn. good morning, everyone. >> mostly cloudy skies right now. here's a look at emeryville. due to the veil of thin, high clouds, temperatures dropped everywhere. we do a 50 in san jose, but still some 30s up in the north and east bay. the numbers range from mid-30s to around 50 under mostly cloudy skies. fog not much of a factor. once we see the clouds move out, we will see plenty of sunshine. and temperatures today warmer. in fact we are looking at mid-to upper 60s. that will keep us anywhere from five to eight degrees above the average. then tonight with mainly clear sky we will drop off early into the 50s. i'll tell you how long this little warming trend is going to last and when we will see rain arrive again in our forecast. that's coming up later. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. a prom meant charity finds themselves under attack this morning as their important holiday drive kicks into
at montevista high school with details for us. >> it appears that this entire thing that went on yesterday was a hoax but sheriff's deputies not taking any chances. they are going to have additional deputies at montevista high and also at lincoln elementary something that begin four miles from here in san jose. take a look at message that started this entire thing, at linbrook high school a spray-painted threat about a bomb and threat about a teacher. that threat led to santa clara county sheriff's deputies closing down montevista and lincoln elementary. bomb-sniffing dogs were called out. they checked out the campus. a room by room search went on. shortly after the 11:00, it was the all clear, just a hoax but the sheriff's office is also interested in protecting the teacher in case there might be some truth to this. >> a couple deputies are providing protection. >> it won't be a laughing matter if they find the persons that spray pained that message. that person or persons could be facing a felony. this morning, both monte vista high and lincoln elementary will be open for business but as
